Unfortunately if the region had its way SF residents would get an even
worse deal, I fear. SF is very, very different from other cities in the
area - the land use comparison between here and Silicon Valley is like
night and day. Because of this, I would guess that "regional" plans
built around Park-and-Ride and freeways would blow away the relatively
efficient system we have in Muni.

Some would say they already do, that Muni gets a raw deal on state and
federal subsidies. But if BART ran Muni, we'd have maybe one more heavy
rail line (Geary) and precisely jack else.

Of course, this subway-to-almost-nowhere would run on time, since BART
does have some clue about how to do such things. But the taxpayers who
really wish they could use it but don't live nearby (i.e. virtually
everyone) would be soaked in the process, and traffic wouldn't improve
one iota.
