Action Minutes - March 6, 1998

1) We accepted the Rescue Muni positions included with the agenda as
reasonable:
2) We voted to support the Transit First Market Street proposal for a
6-month trial starting in May so it can end before heavy Christmas
shopping starts if necessary. The trial will be for no private vehicles
on Market Street from 8th to the Embarcadero every day all day.
3) We voted to oppose the use of the Fort Mason Tunnel as bike path
because of its future use for the ‘F’ line extension and because of high
cost and low safety. We supported an alternate bike route through or
around Fort Mason.
4) We voted to support the extension of the SFO people mover (ALRS) to
connect with a Caltrain station in San Bruno. San Mateo County will
provide the funds for the ALRS to the station.
5) We supported in concept the ‘G’ Line, extension of the ‘F’ Line to the
Concourse in Golden Gate Park.
6) We reviewed the Muni proposal to relocate the Ferry Bus Terminal from
Mission and Stuart in order to provide lease space for a small hotel. We
continue to oppose this move because it would increase Muni’s operating
costs by over $300,000 per year while decreasing service and because
additional capital costs will be incurred by Muni. This is a previous
position.
7) We opposed the imposition of tolls on pedestrian and bicycle on Golden
Gate Bridge.

Draft Resolution on BART Parking Fees:

We support the imposition of parking fees at all BART stations that will
not reduce ridership, and that will provide a source of funding to reduce
fares or improve maintenance.
