Hello Everyone,
Thanks to Robert Parks I attended the first Driver/Rider community
meeting this evening at the West Bay Community Center for the pilot
project on the 22 Fillmore line.

This effort is supported by the Transport Workers Union as part of a
negotiated settlement in 1966. The objective is to improve Muni by
bringing together the Drivers and Riders to seek solutions to mutual
problems.

A representative of the SF School District attended and agreed to work on
a solutions to teenage issues.

I was very encouraged.

The Riders and Drivers are faced with the same problems. By uniting the
Drivers and the Riders in a focused organized way, we can probably fix
this system is spite of the politicians.

Two main mutual needs were identified:

1. Security. We need a 300 member security force dedicated to just the
Muni with the same crime prevention and citation authority held by Police
Officers.

2. Communications. We need an ongoing communications/education
program that will support useablity and change .

Whatever R.M. can do to help facilitate this program is worthy of our
efforts. The Rider attendance was low (7)and the Driver attendance (8)
was high, especially since they were there on their own time. The
investment in this effort will have a productive payback.

I will follow up with a letter to Mr. Cruz as I hope you will too.
