the Twin Peaks Tunnel because of insufficient platform length at Forest
Hill and West Portal Stations. The maximum Breda train length for revenue
service is 3 cars.

Are you sure about this? If four-car Breda trains do not fit at Forest
Hill or West Portal, this is the most IDIOTIC thing Muni has done. This is
total stupidity. Coupling two L's to two K's or M's is the only way to
increase capacity and decrease congestion in the subway. Four-car trains
are heaven to a Muni Metro rider.

Muni must immediately begin a capital project to lengthen the boarding
platforms. Get out the jackhammers. Unfortunately, the project would
probably require closing the Twin Peaks Tunnel for a month or longer.

Wait a minute. The Breda's have additional doors at the very front and
back of each car that open in the subway, unlike the Boeings. If the front
door is disabled in the first car and the rear door in the last car,
perhaps the platform is long enough. Just reprogram the ATCS to not open
these doors at Forest Hill and West Portal. This is a band-aid fix;
lengthening the platform is the real solution.

Whatever the case, this potential problem must be brought to the attention
of Muni.
