*Are you saying that three car trains cannot use the MMT?

Richard writes: 2. How fares affect system usage.

*Muni is a bargain. I have no problem paying a $1.50 fare like in many
other cities. Effect of fare increase on system usage is minimal. BART
suffers loss of passengers when they raise fares because their fares are
already high ($4 one way, $8 round trip in many cases).

3. How the City subsidies and encourages the use of private automobiles.
Autos get free (or nearly free) street parking. Muni users pay $770 per
year for use of a seat on a bus, a permit to park a car on a city street is
less than $25 per year.

*After paying $3000 per year to the city in property taxes, it's insulting
to have to pay the city $25 per year to park in front of your own house.
The original reason for residential parking permits was to discourage
commuter drivers from parking in your neighborhood, but the permits are now
being used as a source of revenue for the city. Annual cost to ride Muni
is 12 fast passes at $35 each is $420. Annual cost without pass for 5
days/wk is 260 days at $2/day is $520. Less if you use tokens.

4. we must look beyond the simple solution of "let the downtown businesses
pay for it all".

*I agree.

Daniel writes: the car (Breda, car #1422) arrived the Duboce and Church
stop, it opened its doors without having lowered its stairs. ....But the
first car pulls away before the duped passengers on the second car can
board it.

*Not uncommon. I have experienced both problems on the L.
