I have heard persistent rumors that certain board members may be pushing
someone *other* than Board President Tom Ammiano for president (chair?)
of the SF Transportation Authority, the organization that distributes
transit funding and sets some long-term strategic policy for the city.
Generally the SF Board of Supervisors President is appointed, as a matter
of course, as the president (chair?) of the SF Transportation Authority,
on whose board all Supervisors sit as a matter of course. Supervisor
(and Rescue Muni member) Tom Ammiano, who came in first, would therefore
be a natural choice. Unfortunately, rumor has it that certain board
members may be attempting to elect someone else as SFTA president - in
the same way that certain board members attempted to overturn Tom's
committee assignments a few weeks ago.
If you think this is a BAD idea, and that Supervisor Ammiano is a good
candidate for SFTA president, please contact your Supervisor FRIDAY and
