I would offer a different proposal. I have long thought that if I were
King of MUNI the first thing I would do would be to overlay the current
route structure with an Express Bus Network. This would NOT be just a 38
express or a 30 express but a network designed to give service with just a
couple of stops from one side of the city to the other. This network would
of course intersect with the current network but I would differentiate. For
one thing, it would run scheduled, particularly scheduled against major
regional transit connections. In a way you could say that this would be an
attempt to do for the rest of the city what the BART Mission St. through
Balboa park to Daly City operation does.
