PE Posted the following news. How might R M support these changes and
proposed changes? (Assuming we should, which I assume) Metro Comm. Might
address those in our 'turf'. / eric.

"Hi, gang!
On January 23, 1999, the new Muni General Signup goes into effect. It used
to be regular policy to notify operators of specific changes to service as a
result of signups. Now we have to dig to get proper information.
Anyway, the only major service change that I know of is that the five extra
runs put on the F-Line as a result of the Great Meltdown were made
permanent. That means that there will be 12 morning rush hour cars, and 14
evening rush hour cars, on the F. Headways will be 4-8 minutes, as there
was no balancing out in the schedules. Some of the extra cars will stay out
beyond the morning rush and some cars will be added to service in the early
afternoon. I suspect that in the spring signup, the schedules will be
adjusted and smooth out. (In another post, I will show F-Line schedules
that also run on the J-Line to Balboa Park.)
The only other change is to the afternoon 80X/81X/82X Caltrain peak
services, where schedules are adjusted. Surprise! To my knowledge, the 81X
was NOT discontinued! (Is this an admission of failure?)
And now, the previews of coming attractions for 1999/2000 (at least in the
realm of possibility):
F-Market: Summertime 1999, headways to go to 6-minute peak, 10-minute
weekday base. Service to Fisherman's Wharf opens up Jan 2000. Summer
2000--5-minute peak service (summer only).
E-Embarcadero: March 2000. 20 minute service from Fisherman's Wharf to
Caltrain Depot, 20 hour/7 day service.
M-Oceanview: Spring 1999. M-Line becomes next POP line. 2 cars with one
operator at most times.
N-Judah: 2 car trains at all times on weekends. Currently, because of lack
of maintenance budget for this line, only half of the weekend runs were 2
cars; rest were 1 car.
9X-San Bruno Express: Major revamping of schedules to improve running
times. Saturday and Sunday daytime service will be added.
19-Polk: Weekday short line trips currently terminating at Mission Street
will be extended to Townsend Street/Showplace Square.
48-Quintara/24th Street: Service from Ocean Beach to West Portal will run
at all weekday daytime hours. Nighttime and weekend service will continue
to terminate at West Portal.
56-Rutland: 2nd coach will be added to improve service/running times.
108-Treasure Island: Weekend service to be added.
Ballpark services: 6 4-car LRV trains running as Caltrain/Castro shuttle
pre- and post-game; 2 additional E-Embarcadero vintage cars; 12-coach "bus
bridge" pre-and-post game Market to Ballpark."
