Hello, Dan,

I thought that this was true until circa three years ago, but it is my
understanding that boardings have been increasing for at least a couple
of years now.

Actually, it hasn't been in ours. Eloise used to drive most days, and
be an occasional weekend MUNI user, because she frequently had to work
in some god-awful suburb (just like Ron!). Today, she has almost
completely reversed that pattern. Fortunately, since she joined the
union, almost all of her work is in the city. She almost exclusively
takes MUNI to work, now, and uses her car only for the odd weekend
errand and for out-of-town weekend trips.

I suspect that this is also because you can. That is why I do not buy a
car: I suspect that if I did, I'd get frustrated and use it, and lose
my beloved walking and reading-on-the-bus lifestyle. Same reason I
don't buy a TV, even through there are a few things I'd like to see. It
keeps temptation away -- and I'd much rather spend my time contributing
to this list serve or some other vaguely constructive or creative
activity.

I usually try to avoid transfers. I could take the underground or
14-Mission from work to 5th, and catch 27-Bryant but I find it more
pleasant to walk, even late at night when I get off work. However, when
I do take the underground, it is almost always faster.
