R M Metro Committee meeting minutes: 10 Feb. 1999

1. Topics Discussed:
Charter Amendment / Riders Survey / Possible General Meeting re expanded
rail service by Muni / What has become of the drivers freed up by N line
POP? / Which rail projects on the Northern Peninsula should be prioritized?
/ MMX: the N cars do not integrate into the 'next trains' announcement
system
2. Resolution A: Endorsement of certain proposed Muni service expansion in
play for FY 1999-2000
adopted: That Rescue Muni supports implementation and funding of the
following proposed augmentations of Muni service:
F-Market: Summertime 1999, headways to go to 6-minute peak, 10-minute
weekday base. Service to Fisherman's Wharf opens up Jan 2000. Summer
2000--5-minute peak service (summer only).
E-Embarcadero: March 2000. 20 minute service from Fisherman's Wharf to
Caltrain Depot, 20 hour/7 day service.
M-Oceanview: Spring 1999. M-Line becomes next POP line. 2 cars with one
operator at most times.
N-Judah: 2 car trains at all times on weekends. Currently, because of lack
of maintenance budget for this line, only half of the weekend runs were 2
cars; rest were 1 car.
9X-San Bruno Express: Major revamping of schedules to improve running
times. Saturday and Sunday daytime service will be added.
19-Polk: Weekday short line trips currently terminating at Mission Street
will be extended to Townsend Street/Showplace Square.
48-Quintara/24th Street: Service from Ocean Beach to West Portal will run
at all weekday daytime hours. Nighttime and weekend service will continue
to terminate at West Portal.
56-Rutland: 2nd coach will be added to improve service/running times.
108-Treasure Island: Weekend service to be added.

3. Resolution B: Metro Committee applauds the following attempts to improve
Metro Service: (b-1) specifying 4 doors on newly purchased cars. (b-2)
installation of maps in the Metro stations, as urged by this committee in
the past, (b-3) attempts to mitigate inbound delays approaching Embarcadero
station. (b-4) implementation of POP provided proper announcement /
publicity accompanies implementation. Adopted.
4. Follow Up: It was felt that continued meeting with Booz Allen would be
useful and that March would be a good time to continue said meetings.
5. Follow Up: / Action Item. It was thought that a collection of the
committee's prior resolutions to improve service should be sent to Carmen
Clark and cc'd to Booz . The idea being that Cruz may have ignored them but
fresh management might find them of value. Resolution B's wording might be
included in such a letter. HOWARD......
6. Follow Up: Booz Allen's flier promised they'd be redesignating trains.
Members of committee note out of sequence trains continue. Also, the
question of N trains entering Folsom portal not integrating into the 'next
trains' announcement system , impacting passengers of all 5 lines.
