** PLEASE DISTRIBUTE WIDELY **
A SINGLE PERSON CAN CHANGE THE WORLD!
YOU ARE INVITED to a day of celebration, education and dialogue at
the Earth Charter Community Summit in San Francisco on Saturday,
Sept. 28th. The program is FREE and Open to Everyone!
When our common future is at stake, we cannot afford to be
indifferent. Nor can we reasonably expect our political and military
leaders to have the wisdom and will to solve our most serious and
dangerous problems.
Earth Charter Community Summits are being held simultaneously in more
than 20 U.S. cities on Saturday, Sept. 28th, and will be web-cast
globally at: www.earthchartersummits.org
<http://www.earthchartersummits.org/> .
The San Francisco Earth Charter Community Summit will be held
Saturday, Sept. 28th, at the SGI-USA Culture Center Auditorium, 2450
- 17th Street (at Potrero), SF, from 8 am - 3:30 pm (registration
begins at 7:30 am).
WHAT IS THE EARTH CHARTER?
The Earth Charter embraces the view that problems of environmental
degradation, ethnic and religious conflict, violence, and social and
economic injustice are all inter-dependent and calls on us to
recognize that we "are one human family and one Earth community with
a common destiny".
The Earth Charter offers a comprehensive overview of the ethical
values and principles needed for a sustainable future, and serves as
the basis for making the 21st Century an era of creative
co-existence.
AT THE SAN FRANCISCO SUMMIT:
People will be joining together with a sense of solidarity, common
purpose, and responsibility toward future generations.
At the Summit we will LEARN and deepen our awareness of environmental
issues and realities; REFLECT on our modes of living, renewing these
toward sustainability; and EMPOWER people to take concrete action to
resolve the issues we face.
Our special keynote speaker is Dr. David Krieger, President of the
Nuclear Age Peace Foundation and co-author of the new book "Choose
Hope". His presentation "Choose Hope and Change The World" puts
forth the profound proposition that ordinary people can and must lead
their leaders to a globally secure future. We can end the threat of
nuclear devastation if we choose to do so. With hope, it is possible
to change the world. But we must consciously choose hope, and then
choose to act upon it.
Our morning program will feature speakers on Media Empowerment, Water
Needs and Solutions, and delegates from the UN World Summit for
Sustainable Development (WSSD) conference held in Johannesburg.
In the afternoon we will hold Partnership Building dialogue
discussions on the Earth Charter and: Education, Environment,
Faith-based Community, Government, Media and Outreach, and community
based groups.
Our event includes children's performances, cultural presentations,
and "Choose Hope" book-signing. A catered lunch will be available
on-site for sale.
