Dear friend,

We are pleased to report a big victory for health and environmental
justice! Assembly Bill 2214 (sponsored by Assembly Member Fred
Keeley) passed the California State Legislature and was signed by
Governor Davis, prohibiting once and for all the use of Ward Valley
as a potential nuclear waste dump site. This is an important victory
for everyone who cares about health, the environment and Native
American rights. The nuclear industry had tried unsuccessfully for
years to get permits for a dump at at Ward Valley for highly
radioactive waste - primarily from nuclear power plants. They had
hoped to dump this waste in unlined dirt trenches above an aquifer,
with pathways to the Colorado River, drinking and agricultural water
source for over 20 million people. Ward Valley is also sacred to the
area's Native Nations, who helped lead a giant coalition effort to
stop the dump. Greenaction is proud to have worked with our Native
and non-Native allies to win this long and hard-fought victory!

surrounding neighborhoods;

WE ARE ASKING EVERYONE WHO SUPPORTS GREENACTION TO PLEASE MAKE AS
GENEROUS A DONATION AS POSSIBLE TO ALLOW GREENACTION TO CONTINUE OUR
SUCCESSFUL AND IMPORTANT WORK FOR HEALTHY COMMUNITIES AND
ENVIRONMENTAL JUSTICE.
