JOB ANNOUNCEMENT: SIERRA CLUB, SAN FRANCISCO BAY CHAPTER
EAST BAY COMMUNITY ORGANIZER
Sierra Club, the nation's oldest and largest environmental group, is hiring
a Community Organizer to coordinate volunteer campaigns to protect open
space in the Tri-Valley and East Contra Costa County.
This is an outstanding opportunity for individuals interested in grassroots
political organizing. Applicants must have the ability to travel between
the Berkeley office and the volunteer efforts in the Tri-Valley and East
Contra Costa County.
MAJOR JOB ACTIVITIES INCLUDE:
+ Organize a strong volunteer base.
+ Identify neighborhood leaders among Sierra Club members in the various
communities.
+ Coordinate grassroots electoral campaigns to elect local environmental
leaders and pass urban growth boundary ballot measures
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:
+ Two years professional experience managing volunteer grassroots efforts
+ Strong interest in environmental and grassroots politics
+ Commitment to the democratic and electoral process
+ Strong written and oral communication skills
+ Any fundraising experience is a plus, including grassroots fundraising.
SALARY, BENEFITS AND TERM
Annual salary is $30,000 to $34,000 with full benefits including competitive
medical and dental. Position is funded for six months with possibility of
developing into a permanent position.
