SUMMER '04

INTERNSHIP OPPORTUNITIES / BAY AREA, CA

SIERRA CLUB CALIFORNIA WILD HERITAGE CAMPAIGN

Applications Due April 12th
*******************************************************************

-->please forward or post as open to interested parties<--

California is a beautiful state; souring mountain ranges, wild rivers,
rolling hills, majestic forests and unparalleled opportunities for
recreation in the outdoors. Unfortunately, many of these wild areas are at
risk. In the last twenty years California has lost 700,000 acres of
wilderness quality land to logging, mining and unchecked off-road vehicle
use. To protect the wild places that remain for future generations, the
Sierra Club and California Wild Heritage Campaign are seeking interns for
the summer of 2004 to work in the California Bay Area.

These full and half-time internships will be based out of the Sierra Club's
Oakland field office. Interns will coordinate and implement grassroots
campaign tactics in a strategic effort to educate the public and effect
positive change for the protection of our last remaining wild places.

The internships will involve, but not be limited to, community outreach
through presenting the California Wild Heritage Campaign to various groups
and the public at large, organizing hikes, recruiting/educating new
coalition partners, preparing informational materials, working on events
centered around the 40th anniversary of the Wilderness Act, and similar
outreach activities.

The ideal candidate will be able to commit 2-3 months of their summer for
full or half-time (40 hr or 20 hr work-weeks) participation on this project.

Please send a resume, cover letter and 1-2 references to
dave.westman@sierraclub.org no later than start of business, April 12th
with the title "Summer Internship" in the subject line. Email applications
preferred, but may also be mailed to the address below.

For a more detailed description of the internship or any other questions,
please write to dave.westman@sierraclub.org

This internship is unpaid, but offers reimbursement for expenses incurred
while performing job duties.
