Urgent Bayview Hunters Point Action Alert

Residents of the low-income community of color in San Francisco=92s Bayview=
=20
Hunters Point neighborhood have been fighting for more than eight years to=
=20
close PG&E=92s unnecessary and polluting power plant in Bayview Hunters=20
Point. Greenaction and our community coalition allies have done our own=20
technical analysis that proves the PG&E power plant can be closed today
with no interruption of power to city residents. Future energy needs=20
should be met with renewable energy and conservation, not polluting fossil=
=20
fuel power plants.

The California Independent System Operator corporation (CAISO), a=20
quasi-governmental organization that regulates California=92s electrical=20
grid, had promised to close the plant once new transmission projects were=20
completed to improve area reliability.
Now CAISO has added a new unjust and unacceptable demand =AD--- Potrero Hill=
=20
residents must surrender their right to environmental review of a proposed=
=20
retrofit of the Mirant Potrero 3 Power Plant=ADor in retaliation PG&E=92s=20
Hunters Point Plant will be permitted by the ISO to continue to pollute=20
Southeast San Francisco. This is an outrageous attempt to pit one=20
community against another that would result in the continued pollution of=20
the Bayview Hunters Point community that already suffers epidemic rates of
asthma and cancer.

Call the California Independent System Operator today and tell them that=20
residents of San Francisco and people all over the country stand together=20
for health and environmental justice and join in the demand that PG&E=92s=20
Hunters Point Plant must be closed NOW!
