features

  • magic, of course
    • magic will be considered something that only organic beings can manipulate, cyborgs who were originally people with some remaining organic composition may be able to practice it, but at a penalty
  • cybernetics
    • mind->machine interface for 'computery stuff'
    • if I do implement the cyborg stuff, there will be a modular system for new implants, upgrades, etc for ease of use
    • trying to think of how people would interface with the machines that would be simple, but at least semi realistic (eg: this is not the matrix)
  • space exploration
    • planets will be traveled to and from via x,y,z coordinates
    • fuel will only be used initially for 'getting going':
      • alot of scifi assumes that you have to keep spending fuel while in motion, however, this ignores one of newton's laws: 'an object in motion tends to stay in motion until an outside force diverts the object' or something along those lines, basically, you'll be slingshotted when you start up the engines, and not have to spend any more fuel aside from minor course adjustments to make up for solar flares, gravitational fields, etc
  • "psy powers"
    • telekinesis, telepathy, and everything inbetween
    • this ability will be considered seperate from magic: while magic is more of an unexplained art, psy powers will be 'powered' by creating large synapse storms in the mind, building up a charge, and manipulating atoms from a subatomic level by sending out 'commands' via other particles that are in contact with both the person and the object to be manipulated, which can cause you to move objects, create sound, and through a subconcious understanding of how the mind works, alter other peoples' perception
    • (please note that the person has to have some sort of physical 'link' to what they want to manipulate, think of it along the lines of sending a command down a nerve, there has to be a nerve to send the command down, but in this case, any matter whatsoever will allow you to send a command to a destination)
    • no connection to matter -> no psy power over it; essentially no psy power in space/other vacuums
  • movement
    • ...will be fairly mud-like, except for the lack of cardinal directions if you don't posess a compass, while on space stations, or even odd planets, there may be no magnetic poles, so even then, the compass may not help- in fact it may disorient you, giving you unreliable readings
    • there will be a proxy system of sorts, where you can be in a room, and you can move next to another person, a doorway, a computer console, etc
    • eventually I plan on moving the entire system over to proxy (more later)
  • combat system
    • no hitpoints
    • takes into effect size, weight, stamina
    • hostpitals for resting/getting patched up (you don't just magically heal by sitting around, well, unless you cast a spell to do that or theres some kind of nanomachines in your bloodstream...)
      • note: cyborgs wouldn't have to 'rest up' in this sense, but find a place to either fix damaged parts, or find replacements
    • if you fight an enemy with a sword and they have a gun, you will die, hence the no hitpoints rule (well, range will be taken into effect, if you are within striking distance, and have the element of surprise, you live)
    • while piloting an aerial vehical, piloting experience, manuverability, size and weaponry will be the factors in the outcome, I'm not going to include speed, as there won't be an option to dogfight while going 300,000+ mph
    • the proxy system will come into effect while combatting, since you can't attack someone with your sword if they're on the other side of the room (that is, unless you throw it at them)
  • goal
    • there is no one specific goal to acheive, there is no pre-determined quest or paticular menacing plot you have to foil in order to save the universe; you are simply living
