Objective:

Senior to mid-level position as a unix systems administrator.

Skills:

Fluent in C, Basic, Pascal, shell scripting, and html formatting.

Working knowledge of setting up, operating and upgrading various internet services, namely: the Berkely Internet Name Domain (BIND) server, the Apache web server, the wu-ftpd daemon, along with the Secure Shell (ssh) daemon, which can provide cryptographic forwarding of internet traffic.

Well versed in the art of administrating Unix systems, from setting up a network firewall, to compiling custom kernels. Specializing in Linux and BSD variants, including: FreeBSD, Debian, RedHat, Slackware and Mandrake.

Experienced in both Netware 3.x and WindowsNT.

Have excellent written and verbal communications skills.

Experience:

1995, programming in Basic - devised a program to generate keys, encode and decode one time pad encrypted files, made several graphic and text based games, as well as a piano "emulator."

1996, formatted webpages in HTML - set up various personal web sites, helped others with their own sites, used it to write school assignments when the the only tools available were either simple text or MS Word.

1997 - 1998, Networking - Lincoln HS - learned while administering a Netware 3.x network, added computers to the existing network, assigned ip addresses, ran cable, installed ram, learned basic circuitry/electrical engineering.

1998, programming in C - Mainly ANSI C, although I picked up a bit on C++. I also wrote some basic gtk. I've written several text based games with a MUD/MUSH/MOO style of gameplay to them.

1999, Used Linux as both a desktop and server. Picked up on both apache and standard inetd "small" daemons. Installed, and set up ssh to keep connections over the internet secure. Learned the basics of gtk and created sample programs to play with it. Editted parts of the zip drive driver in order to get the kernel to pick up the drive. Mandrake 5.2, RedHat 6.0, Debian 2.1, Slackware 7.0

1999, Used BSD as both a desktop and server. Set up wuftpd, picked up a little on rpc services, fiddling with nfs. Learned how to set up memory-based filesystems, and create CD disk images. Set up Apache (virtual hosts, mod_ssl), added network interfaces (both loopbacks and physical), and set up firewall rules to increase overall security of services I didn't want to offer to the internet in general. FreeBSD 3.3, 3.4, 3.5.1, 4.1, 4.1.1, 4.2

1999 (Mark Twain HS), wired and configured an NT lab for networking, which included cutting and running cable throughout a lab, assigning ip addresses, setting up hubs at points to reduce the amount of cable needed to be run and setting up domain information.

1999 - 2000, Designed, webmastered and set up a Linux server to host the Mark Twain HS website while it was in development. During this time, I taught HTML to a class, set up a named server so that we wouldn't have to use the slower WINS server that was causing horrible lag while browsing. (since moved to: http://www.sfusd.edu/schwww/sch737)

2000 - 2001, Senior Unix Administrator for UPNetworks. While there, I set up customers on our Cisco 6509 switch, did minor changes to our border routers and learned a bit about Cisco IOS. I also managed eight FreeBSD servers running various services, including: BIND, Apache, proftpd, cyrus, postfix, mrtg, mailman, majordomo, sshd and mysqld. We used CVS for revision control on dns and other records, plus sudo to control who had the priviliges to make certain changes.
